kaffe progresses in Debian
Yes! New snapshot upload. The zip bug on powerpc has been fixed by Riccardo Mottola, Dalibor Topic and Michael Koch so Kaffe is now in a very good shape on powerpc! Also, lot of progresses have been made in other areas (kjc, awt, swing, bug fixes,...) but it seems bugs has been introduced in GNU JAXP. We still can not run Struts on Kaffe.
What next?
  • bug fixed
  • build with gcc-3.4, g++-3.4, libffi3-dev
  • running Struts

JAR/ZIP archive handling

Hi!

You are aware that just about all RC bugs in Sarge related to Java (http://bugs.debian.org/release-critical/debian/all.html) can be traced to problems with JAR/ZIP file creation in kaffe?

Those packages build fine when built with the Sable VM or Sun JDK 1.4/1.5.

Yo!
they should build fine with the latest kaffe in unstable. If you can give a try or send bug reports to ask people to rebuild packages with the latest kaffe, that could be great. I'll investigate that later but I haven't time at the moment. Many thanks for you interest

Hi!

commons-beanutils still does not build with the latest kaffe from unstable (bug no. 277141). Bugs no. 276387, 275878 and 277139 seem to belong to the same category.

Ant seems to do some nasty reflection stuff which fails obscurely with kaffe. I am not sure if it is worth investigating or if the build process should be switched over to sablevm.

BTW: I am not a DD just an interested user. I don't care about those packages themselves, I just looked over the list of Java-related release bugs to see if I could help. ;-)

Roland Stigge told me the same bad thing. Upstream is aware, I hope they/we'll find a solution as soon as possible.
Thanks for your interest and help,
